Emma Yates, left, born within Fort Victoria in 1850, and her sister Harriet, born 1851. They were pupils number two and three registered at the Sisters of St. Anne school shortly after it opened in 1858.

Harry Yates, second son of James and Mary Yates, was born in Victoria in 1859. He returned in the early 1880s, and married Nellie Austin in 1889.
